NMI is committed to supporting the cross-cultural and academic interests and needs of our Spanish- and English-speaking students and families.

To that end, we are pleased to announce our 2010 Summer Programs.

The Summer Programs involve families coming together to share meals before separating into distinct groups for specific learning activities. While the adults are engaged in the various community-building activities and programs designed to enhance understanding of dual language immersion education, the incoming 1st & 2nd grade children enjoy the supervised Spanish Language Camp. Fun cultural activities exploring the traditions, arts, music, dance, etc. of a variety of Latin American regions will be the focus of these Language Camps.

Older children (incoming 3rd — 6th graders) can participate in WKCE Prep workshops. These sessions will cover test-taking strategies and increase the students' familiarity and comfort with test-taking, an important academic skill that will be needed throughout their school careers. These concepts are integrated into summer-friendly activities.

This year’s events will be held Wednesday evenings, July 14, 21, 28, and Aug 4 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at the Catholic Multicultural Center / Centro Guadalupe, 1862 Beld Street.

Dinner will be from 5:30 – 6:15 PM and the parents’ and children’s activities will begin at 6:15 pm.

Childcare for children 5 and under will be provided.

There is no charge to families for participation in these programs.

The Parent Programs will focus on the following topics:

  • July 14:  Dual Language Immersion — Grade by Grade; Understanding WKCE Testing
  • July 21:  How Parents Can Help with Learning at Home
  • July 28:  Issues at School: Bullying, Bus Behavior and Problems on the Playground
  • August 4:  Sennett Middle School and Beyond
