NMCS Teacher and Parent Receive Awards

Jill Tackett-Cornejo

Nuestro Mundo parent, Jill Tackett-Cornejo, is recognized by the MMSD with a 2009 Distinguished Service Citizen Award for her volunteer work at NMCS. Read more here and watch a short video of Jill in the classroom.

Joshua Forehand, 4th grade teacher at NMCS, has been designated an Aristo Scholar for 2009–2010. This grant will support his proposal to use internet telephony to allow NMCS 5th graders to communicate with their counterparts at a school in Honduras. Congratulations! Read more....



NMCS Charter Renewed

The MMSD Board of Education has approved a 5-year renewal of the NMCS Charter School Contract between Nuestro Mundo, Inc. and the MMSD. The new contract not only guarantees the continuation of the school but also includes new provisions in the admission policy and provides more flexibility for NMI and the district in the implementation of the DLI model.

NMI would like to thank all of those involved in the contract renewal negotiation process, including MMSD officials, for their hard work in accomplishing this important milestone.

Debora Gil R Casadi

We are pleased to report that Debora Gil R Casado, NMI board member and social studies teacher at Madison Memorial high school, has earned national board certification, a reflection of exceptional professional practice and extensive subject-area knowledge.

Debora has also been named an Aristo Scholar for 2008–2009. This grant award funds her proposal to increase student engagement through the use of Classroom Response Systems, which allow for immediate feedback between teachers and students. Congratulations Debora!
