Site Leadership Council

parents presenting at an SLC meeting

The Site Leadership Council (SLC) is a volunteer organization consisting of NMCS parents, staff, community members and NMI directors. Under the direction of an SLC Leadership Committee, the SLC plans and implements monthly meetings around school issues, improves parent communication and cross-cultural relationships, supports classroom activities and supports NMI’s efforts to advance the mission of NMCS.

The SLC meets monthly during the school year (September—May). Our goal is to promote parent leadership within the SLC, which contributes to an increase in self-governance and advocacy. NMI is committed to building participation from all families, with special emphasis on Latino family involvement.

Childcare is provided on-site in order to promote the highest possible level of attendance. Meetings are conducted primarily in Spanish and translation equipment and services are made available to facilitate the highest level of understanding across both primary language groups. Many meetings incorporate time for teams of parents to interact and collaborate on issues of importance. This technique helps to build relationships and foster a sense of community and mutual respect among all participants.
